The deck consists of 108 cards in 4 colours, along with 4 skip cards and 8 wild cards. Phase 10 uses the basic mechanics from the very popular card game rummy, where the aim is to collect cards in order to from either runs (cards in sequence) or sets (cards of the same value) in order to win the complete the hand (going out).
Where this game differs though is that the requirements for going out change as the game progresses. Each 'Phase' that you complete moves you onto the next level, where the requirements change. For example at the start of the game each player is trying to get 2 sets of 3 in order to go out. But by Phase 5 you will need to get a run of 8, and to win the game at Phase 10 you must put together a set of 5 and a set of 3.
As the game progresses each player will be on different levels and therefore will be trying to collect different combinations of cards.
All in all Phase 10 provides an interesting twist on regular rummy style cards games. One that the whole family will enjoy.
